Tips & tricks for the cuff

On this page you will find TV reports and test reports on the Masalo® cuff as well as newspaper articles and various tests and publications from the Internet.

General information

The tighter you adjust the Masalo® sleeve at the beginning and the greater the countertraction, the more the tendon insertions are relieved. Tighter adjustment and greater relief are particularly advisable at the beginning. Although the arm can also be fully extended with the cuff in place, we recommend avoiding full arm extension, at least for the first few days (2-4 days), as far as your daily routine allows. You will gradually get used to the support, find the optimum settings and be able to use your arm normally again. The Masalo® cuff is NOT intended to immobilise the arm, but works best when the arm is moved as normally as possible. The arm movements in conjunction with the cuff permanently move, loosen and stretch, stretch and massage the forearm muscles in the direction of the tendon insertions. We recommend wearing the cuff day and night during the initial period (1-2 weeks) and wearing it as regularly as possible until the injury has healed and when the arm is under strain. Important: The Masalo® sleeve is a very effective support against epicondylitis and develops strong forces. Please only use the support if you have received a well-founded diagnosis of epicondylitis from your doctor. For further tips on the treatment of tennis elbow and golfer's elbow, please also read our page "Tips for dealing with epicondylitis".

The right "twist"

If you would like more relief or you feel that the cuff is "pressing" on the pain point (tendon attachment), please change the settings according to one or more of the following points until you have found your optimum settings:
  • Turn the forearm cuff slightly further towards the outside or inside of the arm
  • Change the position of the forearm cuff (further towards the hand or closer to the elbow)
  • Adjust the upper arm strap tighter or wider

The silicone Velcro strap

Inside the upper arm strap you will find a small "band" with silicone dots, which is attached to the strap with Velcro.
You are welcome to remove this tape, but you should keep it.

This Velcro strap is designed to increase wearer comfort and ensure that the upper arm strap does not slip off the arm, even with slightly looser settings. You can adjust the position of the strap to suit your activity.

Improve wearing comfort

If there is acute tenderness at the tendon insertions, raise the upper arm strap slightly and adjust it a little more tightly. You may not be able to fully stretch your arm, but you will achieve a great deal of relief.

This setting should be changed again after 2-4 days.
Alternatively or additionally, you can change the position of the forearm cuff (further towards the hand or closer to the elbow).

Additional note

If the cuff is adjusted very tightly and under extreme strain, the Velcro fasteners may occasionally loosen. This is a desirable effect to ensure continuous blood circulation. Change the settings if necessary.

If you notice any circulatory problems during normal exercise, please readjust the support accordingly.
